…“Since the gods of the kings of Aram have helped them, I will sacrifice to them so that they will help me.” 2 Chronicles 28.23
The context of this verse is that King Ahaz is looking for help; having abandoned the way of the Lord he is seeking new gods that may be able to help him. Whereas we may not go this far in our quest for success, we can learn from his mistake.
There is always a temptation to search for new things about God in the hope that some unexpected discovery or fresh revelation will provide what we feel we may have been lacking. However, it’s not so much a search for something fresh that is the answer, but more about returning to the basics in a deeper way.
The core basics of our faith are that we are unique children of Father God and that out of his love he sent Jesus to save us and dwell within us through the power of the Holy Spirit. There really is not much more we need to know! If we take these truths seriously and apply the implications of them to our lives, then we will be profoundly changed and will also bring significant change to the lives of those around us.
Choose one of these core values now and spend a few minutes thinking about what it really means and the implications of it for you today.
