‘…the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.’ Psalm 147.11
It might sound strange, but this verse seems to suggest there is a link between fearing God and putting our hope in his love - even though we might normally think of them as opposites. There seems to be a sense that we should take God’s love more seriously than we might do.
Concentrating on his love can seem rather self-indulgent; after all, there are so many other things we should be praying for and working towards. Yet this verse says that to hope in God’s love actually brings him pleasure. It is an amazing thought that you have the capacity to bring God pleasure. It is more natural to think that this only applies to people who do outstanding works or sacrifice everything for him, but bringing pleasure to God is something we can all do, and in a very simple way – by trusting in his love.
Take a moment to do this right now. Remind yourself of God’s love for you and of all that he has done to bless you, and then trust in his love for you today.
