‘Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Saviour and of Christ Jesus our hope’ 1 Timothy 1.1
As we all recall our individual stories of coming to faith, each of us will have a different story to tell. For some it may have been an intellectual struggle or a crisis that brought them to a place of decision, for others a growing awareness of something beyond this life, or perhaps a personal acceptance of the faith in which they grew up.
In today’s verse, Paul brings us back to the central core of all our faith stories – it is God who chose us. It is tempting to think that this certainly must have applied to Paul - after all he did have a rather dramatic conversion experience – but it is true for all of us. Ephesians 1.4 puts it so powerfully: ‘For he chose us in him before the creation of the world’. However you think you came to faith – actually God chose you.
There may well be times in your life, possibly even today, when you will experience some form of rejection, but whatever you face from other people, nothing can change the fact that you have been chosen by God. Take a few moments to focus on this truth right now: ‘I have been chosen by God.’
