‘…pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.’ 1 Timothy 6.11
Many times each day we have opportunities to pursue faith. This involves choosing to believe what we cannot see or cannot feel, and without it we are at the mercy of our feelings and emotions.
The Bible invites us to see ourselves as precious children of the living God, loved by him to the extent that he gave Jesus for us, and trusted by him to carry his very presence with us wherever we go. Believing this invitation takes faith, as it is so easy to assume that because we do not feel God’s presence as a tangible force then he is not present; or because things might not go as we would like, then he does not love us.
We must turn our backs on these feelings and walk in the opposite direction. We do carry God’s presence with us every minute of the day, whether we feel it or not - or whether others notice it or not. He is tender towards us even when circumstances make us wonder how such things could happen if he cares so much.
Ultimately it all comes down to a matter of choice. Choose to believe that you will carry something of God’s presence with you throughout this day; choose to believe that at any point in the day his love and passion for you is far stronger than you could ever conceive and choose to pursue faith and not be a slave to your feelings.
