‘…your faithfulness surrounds you.’ Psalm 89.8
It is reassuring to know that whenever God is present – which is always – everything about him is also present. This verse reminds us that his faithfulness is always surrounding him. The question is – what difference will this make to you?
If you are coming to God with a sense of guilt, then to remember that you are coming into his faithfulness means that you are turning to the one who has promised to forgive, and whose love for you will never fail. You may feel that you do not deserve what he has to give, but thankfully his grace is determined by his faithful character and not by your track record.
If you have a concern or need that causes you to turn to God, then remembering his faithfulness means that however your prayer is answered, it will be answered by one who is utterly committed to your well-being and care. You don’t present your needs to a brick wall, nor are they presented to God as if in a lottery where he can decide which ones to answer. He is faithful to all who turn to him.
So as you come before him now, for whatever reason, spend a few moments pondering the reality of his faithfulness to you. Before you bring whatever is on your heart to God, let a sense of his faithfulness take root in you and shape the way you bring your requests to him.
