“…I will give you rest.” Matthew 11.28
Yesterday we looked at this promise of Jesus and recognised that since it is based
on what he has already done for us, we can rely on it completely.
However, experiencing his rest is not meant to be a one-off event for us, but rather a constant source of Jesus working in our lives. So many people can look back to singular experiences of the wonder of God’s love - perhaps when they felt his presence in a special way or a touch of his grace and love – but these touches of his rest, peace and grace are not meant to be one-off experiences that we can enter into our diaries. Rather they are a constant stream flowing from God to us, and the invitation Jesus gives to the weary and burdened is not a single voucher that can only be used once. Jesus would be delighted if we sought his rest every hour of every single day.
God may have blessed you in the past, but will you go back to him today? He may have assured you of his love for you in days gone by, but what if he is seeking to do so again now? Take a moment to focus on what it means to receive his rest in your life and then allow him give you a fresh sense of his love and touch today. God is waiting so all you have to do is come to him.
