‘…among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.’ 2 Thessalonians 1.4
It is all too easy to regard ourselves as failures when things start to go badly. We wonder where we went wrong, whether we have sinned against God and why he seems to have abandoned us? However, when Paul looked at the Thessalonian church he boasted about their perseverance and faith, rather than shaking his head in despair at all they had done wrong.
We are encouraged to be people of faith and we like to think that we live up to this - yet faith and trials seem to go hand in hand. Trials are not a sign of God’s disapproval, nor are they necessarily sent to us by God, but they can be the breeding ground for faith.
Trials may take a variety of forms; opposition to what you stand for, sickness, a
particular difficulty you are going through, or perhaps not seeing the fruit of your ministry or prayers. Whatever the trial, the calling is the same – perseverance and faith. Keep going and don’t give up! Hold on to a vision of the abundance of God’s love for you.
