“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” Luke 16.10
The chances are that you would like more from God than you currently have - whether it be a greater sphere of influence, a larger ministry or a deeper awareness of his love. We know that such things are not attainable for ourselves and that we really do need him, and surely if God did provide them life would be so much more productive.
However, this verse adds a twist to our thinking. Our focus should not be on what else God could give us, but rather on what he has already given us and what we are doing with it.
You may feel you want a deeper knowledge of God’s love, for example, and today’s verse challenges you to consider what you are doing with what you already have. You already have many assurances from the Bible that you are deeply loved; in fact, you are loved to such an extent that God gave Jesus for you. What are you doing with this? How grateful are you for it?
It is entirely appropriate to seek wonderful things from God, but don’t forget to remember what he has already given you. Before you ask for more, what are you doing with what you already have?
