“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11.13
Perhaps it is not stretching this verse too much to paraphrase it along these lines: there is no conceivable situation in which you might ask for the Holy Spirit, and your loving Abba Father will not joyfully give him to you.
Is it really this easy? The answer is yes and no! It is as easy as pausing to ask, but so often we fail to do even this simple task. We battle on, relying on our own efforts, trying our hardest and often not getting very far at all - when help is at hand if only we stopped to ask. The next small catch is remembering to take a moment to receive; to let Father God speak to us and bring us whatever it is we need from him.
What do you want to ask God for today? Tell him right now, and allow time to receive his touch before you head off to do whatever you have planned. God is only a prayer away: a huge distance if you don't actually remember to pray, but a very short step if you do.
