![]() ‘The land allotted to Joseph began . . .’ Joshua 16.1 Extensive details of exactly who owned which piece of land does not seem particularly interesting to us, although presumably it was of vital importance to the people concerned! For them it marked the extent of their ownership so that they knew where they could and could not build. It is at this point that the account actually does become relevant to us. We too need to know the extent of what has been given to us. There is no point in us believing, for example, that God is going to do something if he has already said he will not do it. Similarly there is no point trying to live without something that God has said we should have. Knowing where our boundaries lie is important. Of course this isn’t easy as the limits of what we can and can’t expect are not precisely laid out, but what is true is that our boundaries are far bigger than we think. Paul wrote these amazing words in Romans 8.32: ‘He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?’ These words speak of extensive boundaries shaped purely by the gracious, generous, goodness of God. There is far more that God is willing to do for you than you can ask or even imagine. What is it you need?
