“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17.3
This verse is so powerful: it really does open the doors to bring heaven to earth.
Eternal life is often thought of as something that happens when we die. However this verse says that there is a real continuity between our mortal lives and eternal life, and it is not death that separates them but rather our relationship with God.
We step into eternal life whenever we choose to embrace the truth about our relationship with God; that God’s love was demonstrated by him giving Jesus to us. The key to recognising this eternal life is to take time throughout the day to acknowledge just what God has done for you and how much he loves you, and to let this touch your heart wherever you are and whatever you are going through. By doing this, something of heaven touches your life and alters your perception of how the circumstances in your life could change.
Is there something weighing upon you? By focusing on the fact that you are right now in the midst of eternal life, then the very thing that seems to loom so large over you is itself dwarfed by something even greater - the presence of God.
