‘What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God’ 1 Corinthians 2.12
The world is very quick to pass judgment about who it thinks really matters, and physical looks, background, education, connection and past record all play a key part in this. However, perhaps God looks at people differently. When we are tempted to judge people by these standards alone, we are probably being influenced by the ‘spirit of the world’. None of the considerations above are necessarily bad - and indeed part of our desire to worship God with our whole being is to use all that we are for his glory - but the point is that it is not these things alone that mark out what is important to God. What matters is our dependence on him. The first step towards becoming more in tune with ‘the Spirit who is from God’, is to come before God with humility and ask him to fill you afresh with his Spirit. Of course, his Spirit is already within you or you would not be drawn to the things of God in the way that you are, but it would be unrealistic to assume that there is no need for more of him in your life. The truth is that you need more of God in more of you – so why not ask him for a fresh touch of his Spirit today?
