‘…be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.’ 2 Timothy 2.1
If grace is what we need, how do we find it? We know that it is available to us because its source is Jesus. When Paul encourages us to ‘be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus’, the real encouragement is to first get used to finding the presence of Jesus in all circumstances, and then we will be able to find what is in him for all circumstances.
It is precisely because Jesus has promised to be with us always that we can find grace
wherever we are and whenever we need it. Grace flows out of Jesus. One of the most commonly used prayers is the one we simply refer to as ‘The Grace’. It begins, ‘The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ . . .’ If we want to find grace we need to find Jesus.
If you are in a troubling situation, step beck and recognise that looking to yourself to find the strength you need is always going to be limiting. Instead, step back and call upon Jesus, and in this way you will be calling upon the one from whom all the resources of heaven flow.
