‘… where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’ 2 Corinthians 3.17
We can be so quick to underestimate the power and work of the Holy Spirit. This stunningly simple phrase reveals that wherever the Spirit of the Lord is invited to go, he works to bring his freedom to bear on that situation.
It is very reassuring to recognise that it is freedom he seeks to bring, rather than the exchange of one master for another, or a set of rules imposed on a situation. At times we can be reluctant to entrust certain areas of our lives to God because we are unsure exactly what he will do with them, perhaps fearing he will take away something we enjoy. Freedom is such a releasing vision to take to heart; a concept that speaks of gain rather than loss, of joy and not resentment.
We have just been celebrating the birth of Jesus, the Saviour who came into the world – your world. The salvation he came to bring is what freedom is all about, and it is the Spirit of Jesus who came to bring this freedom.
As you invite the Holy Spirit into areas of your life that are troubling you and causing anxiety, it is this vision of freedom that should be at the forefront of your mind. So as you talk to God now, call on his Holy Spirit in the joyful knowledge that freedom is his vision for you.
