‘May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.’ 2 Thessalonians 2.16-17
This verse expresses something of God’s vision for the day ahead. As with many prayers in the Bible, it starts with a reminder of the character of God - God has loved us and put a hope into our heart. If this is true, we can rely on what comes next as well.
What follows is not just a dream about what we would ideally like God to do. Paul is writing to express God’s vision for us; that we might be encouraged and strengthened in every good deed and word.
In other words, as you go about your day, setting your hands to do good, working hard and trying to help others when you can, God will be there adding to what you do and blessing it. Why wouldn’t he? You may think you have a pretty ordinary life with not much going on, but God sees things so differently. Whatever you do, he will be there.
Today, you are carrying with you the very presence of God in your heart. He is within you and surrounding you wherever you go and whatever you do.
