‘…make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge’ 2 Peter 1.5
Knowledge can mean different things, the learning of facts or the search for wisdom. It is interesting that in this letter the word ‘knowledge’ is often used in the context of us knowing Jesus (see verses 3 and 8). Perhaps Peter was reminding us of the truth that there is a difference between actually knowing Jesus and knowing about him.
This is an on-going challenge for us all. It is easy to look back over the day and realise that our investment in our relationship with Jesus has been quite low; that although we may well have gone through the whole day knowing about him, we did not actually enjoy relationship with him. How can we remedy this?
To be constantly aware of your relationship with Jesus means that you have to begin somewhere. Start by taking a few minutes to whisper his name - he is with you right where you are. Even if you don’t sense his presence, hold on to the truth. Since he is there with you, what would you like to say to him? What is his response?
