‘Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.’ 1 Corinthians 1.3
It’s likely that everyone is seeking peace in some way. This might take any number of formats, ranging from exercises designed to still the mind, the pursuit of money in the hope that it will buy security, or plans for a well-deserved holiday away from all the stresses and strains of everyday life. Peace remains a longing for us all.
When Paul greeted the Corinthians at the beginning of his letter, he used the words in today’s verse to remind them that peace was not something they could find for themselves, but only through God. His simple sentence remains true for us today. We may experience moments of tranquillity and calm, but deep permanent peace comes from being at one with God and knowing the wonder of being his child.
At the beginning of his Gospel, John stated that anyone who turned to Jesus had the right to become a child of God and to call him, ‘Father’ (John 1.12). This is where peace begins – knowing that you are completely accepted by God.
Why not spend a few minutes now reflecting on the fact that as a much loved child you do not have to struggle to find peace because you are cherished and adored by your heavenly Father, you have the Lord Jesus Christ to be with you always and his Holy Spirit to guide and lead you through life.
