“What do you want me to do for you?” Mark 10.51
This is the question that Jesus asks a person in need. Out of all the resources that Jesus has, what is it that they want him to do to meet their human need? It is never wrong to bring Jesus into every need we have. However, our needs should not dominate the whole of our communication with him.
Very few stories about Jesus occur in all four Gospels, and one of them is the account of Jesus being anointed by a woman. At the heart of this story is a person responding to Jesus by doing something for him, rather than requesting things from him.
It’s really good for you to call out to Jesus today, for help with something or his touch on someone, but from time to time also remember to quietly speak his name with affection. This isn’t so that your prayers will have a better chance of being answered! It is simply showing your love for him, responding to what he has done for you and acknowledging the friendship that is so precious to him.
