‘When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”’ Genesis 28.16
This verse is very powerful because it encourages us to believe in the constant presence of God with us.
It is worth pondering what you associate with the presence of God? Perhaps you think of physical manifestations such as shaking or falling to the ground, or maybe you assume there will be light or something along those lines. Instead you may imagine his presence will be accompanied by an inner awe and stillness. All of these things may occur, but in themselves they are not definitive indicators that God is present. So it follows that if you do not experience any of them, it certainly does not mean that God is absent.
The truth is that Jesus is always with you and his Spirit always lives within you. This means that you can look back on every place where you have been and be absolutely certain that the Lord was there, even if you go on to say, “and I was not aware of it.”
Wherever you go today – the Lord will be there. You may not sense him and you may not remember him, but he will certainly be with you.
