‘…an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”’ Matthew 1.20
The Christmas story contains a lot of risk! At any point one of the main characters could have thought, “Enough is enough!” Or they could have decided that they wanted to do things another way, not happy with the choices that God seemed to have made. Yet throughout, we see people guided and committed to following his plan.
God actually takes a risk with all of us. He trusts us with his love, his presence and with being his ambassadors to the people we will come across each day. For some of them, we will be the only ambassador of God they will come across and God trusts us with this.
You may find it a daunting thought that you may be someone’s only contact with God today – so resolve to make every contact count. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have to do anything specific other than to have it in your mind that you are representing God and carry his presence. In this way your speaking, listening and actions, however small, will take on a whole new perspective.
