‘I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know . . . his incomparably great power for us who believe.’ Ephesians 1.18-19
We have been looking at areas of our lives in which the Holy Spirit wants to bring revelation, and the final area is power; the power that is available to us who believe.
Perhaps this is the most significant area requiring God’s revelation since we have no natural awareness of what Paul goes on to share. He says that the power available to us is like the power that God exerted when he raised Jesus from the dead. We might expect that if Paul was right and this power really is flowing through us, then we would feel it! Whereas we might experience a touch occasionally, it is probably not always, nor at times when we feel at our most weak and vulnerable – the times when we probably need God’s power the most!
However Paul is sharing that we won’t feel this power naturally – perhaps we are not meant to – but the power is still there, and God will reveal it to us if we ask him.
When you next feel at your weakest, most powerless or most in need of God’s help, rather than simply crying out for help, try asking for a revelation of the power that is available to you. Ask the Holy Spirit what is possible in the situation that is worrying you, and expect him to show you. Then hold on to what he reveals and see it for what it is – the vision and possibility of change.
