‘Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.”’ Acts 3.6
When Peter brought healing to the crippled man in Acts 3, his approach and confidence were incredible. He didn’t pray about the situation, or even pray for the man; instead he recognised that he carried within him the presence of Jesus, and so he simply spoke and acted accordingly.
The challenging question for us is whether Peter had anything more in him that we have within us? The same Jesus who spoke with Peter is alive for us today and the same Spirit who filled Peter also fills us. What marks Peter out is his confidence. Peter knew that God was alive in him in a powerful way.
The challenge, of course, is to seek to capture this same confidence. Paul uses the phrase, ‘Christ in you, the hope of glory’ (Colossians 1.27) and it may be that by personalising this (‘Christ in me, the hope of glory’) and taking it to heart, it begins to make a real difference to the way you think. Another helpful verse is Jeremiah 15.16. ‘I bear your name, Lord God Almighty’. Choose one of these and spend a few minutes repeating it over and over to yourself, and by doing so you are more likely to remember this incredible truth, that you carry within you the actual presence of the living God.
