“What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18.27
The context for this statement is money! A rich man has just been told that if he really wants to follow Jesus, then he needs to sell all he has and give to the poor. Jesus then tells his followers how hard it is for those who are rich to enter God’s kingdom. Hearing this, the disciples wonder how some folk will ever change, and in reply to this Jesus speaks these words – “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
Jesus is saying that even though greed and attachment to money can be such driving forces, God can still break into these attitudes and bring heartfelt change.
Being too rich may not be your greatest problem! However, you may be aware of some attitude, circumstance or feeling that seems to have a grip upon you, and try as you might you cannot seem to get free of it. If this applies to you, then the amazing good news is that even if change seems impossible to you, it is certainly possible with God.
Perhaps the change begins with honesty. Begin by bringing your situation into the light of God’s love. He actually knows all about you anyway, and what is going on in the deepest part of your heart. So tell him how helpless you feel and see what he does.
