‘But you are our Father’ Isaiah 63.16
It is interesting that when Isaiah spoke these words, they were not really spoken in a spirit of worship, but rather out of a sense of desperation. Things were not going well: God seemed to be a long way off, and whereas Isaiah could remember the good things of God, they seemed to be a distant memory. So he spoke these words, perhaps as a reminder to himself or even as a reminder to God, that this was not how it was meant to be – that there was more.
As you ponder your life, what state is it in? You might be going through a hard time, where the good things of God seem like a distant memory. If you feel like this, then come back to these beautiful words – you are my Father.
This is the relationship God has planned for you. It is not something that you have dreamed up but it is God’s revelation to you. He is the Father who has called you to him, who longs for relationship with you so much that he gave Jesus to open the door, and is waiting and longing for your friendship.
